For children all across Canada, the past few weeks of summer have been busy! Getting ready for school brings many ‘stressful’ yet fun decisions for them and their parents – what to wear, what colour binders to buy, worries about homework and teachers, and so on. These decisions are often taken for granted as school is such a staple in the lives of children in Canada.

In other countries around the world, this isn’t always the case. According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), roughly 60 million primary school aged children do not attend school. This is a catastrophic number – every child has the right to at least a primary school education. Further, according to the latest available statistics from the United Nations Childrens Fund (UNICEF), we see how this impacts countries where CCI currently sponsors children. In Uganda and Rwanda, less than 20% of secondary students regularly attend classes. Secondly, in Kenya, roughly 1 out of 4 primary school aged children did not attend school. Finally, in Haiti, only one tenth of the population has had regular access to the internet, and roughly 30% of youth are illiterate.*

At ChildCare INTERNATIONAL (CCI), sponsored children receive an education as part of their sponsorship. We ensure that children who are registered and not yet sponsored, also receive an education. School is expensive; uniforms, books, and other costs make school seem like an extravagant cost for under educated parents who don’t understand the value of a good education. It is for this reason that we have the ‘Unsponsored Children’s Fund’ (UCF).

The UCF directly benefits children who do not yet have a sponsor, and provides them with an education, while they wait for a sponsor.  The children benefited by this fund are children whose parents and guardians cannot afford school fees. The funds from the UCF are paid directly to schools to cover the fees of children who otherwise will be turned away. So far, the UCF has been a tremendous success! Over the last 10 months, from donations received through our new gift catalogue, a full year’s education has been provided for 77 students! These students are in school and learning each day, thanks to the generosity of our partners! We hope, pray, and work towards continuing to increase this number.

With the UCF, children are provided with the opportunity to learn, to play, to be nourished, and to begin to understand the great love God has for them.  Since these children are in school, their energy levels will increase and their spirits lightened. As these children grow older, they will become young adults with knowledge, strong educational foundations, and relationships with God – exactly what is needed to be successful, and to grow the Kingdom of God. With your continued help, we can and we will provide unsponsored children with the education they need!

For only $240, you can send a child to school for one year (or $20/month). We currently have 281 children without sponsors who are longing for the opportunity to attend school!

Thank you in advance for your generosity, and God Bless!
